This yew bowl turned ‘end grain’ meaning the grain runs parallel to the piece while rotating on the lathe thus showing the annual growth rings in the bowl. I wanted this piece to look like a washed river rock that had been eroded over time.

Yew is an amazing wood to work with. The grain is tight and curly with beautiful beige and purple colouring. This tree came from a neighbour’s Garden and was probably aver 120 years old when felled.
