Fumed Oak Salad Bowl

260.00

This fumed oak salad bowl has been on the shelf for quite a while. The base needed to be finished and I had put the job off for years. I decided to carve 3 feet and fume the piece to darken the finish which I think was well worth it.

Finish: Danish oil
Dimensions: H: 14cm x W: 42cm

Fuming is a finishing/colouring process using ammonia which reacts with the tannin in the wood to darken the grain. Oak has a high tannin content so the process works really well and produces beautiful rich dark tones. Depending on the duration of exposure Oak turns from beige/brown to a rich chocolate brown/black colour.
